While Grandma and Grandpa were here, we decided to go to the
zoo. My mom went with us. Cadence has never gone to the zoo, but she loves animals and knows a lot about them. We have MANY books with animals.
Cadence was funny. She wanted to be carried by Chris most of the time. I think seeing the animals in person was a little intimidating to her. Cooper also wanted to be held. He did not like the stroller that day. I carried him in the Moby. The animal she talked about the most was the elephant. However, she did not want to be put down around them or the rhinos.
The rhinos were right in front of the observation windows so we got an amazing up close look!
The giraffes were very cool. While we watched, one giraffe kept trying to eat some leaves in the trees. Its tongue was so long!!! Cadence loved being able to walk up the stairs in the giraffe exhibit and look eye to eye with these tall animals. When she told others about the giraffes, she would say, "Giraffes. Long neck." 
She also liked the zebras, big cats, baboons and penguins. However, her favorite part of the zoo was probably the rides. On the merry-go-round, she chose a giraffe to ride.
When we first walked in the zoo, she wanted to ride the train. She loves Thomas Train. We told her after we see the animals, we could ride the train. We were all getting tired and were grateful to be able to sit down as we rode around. She was so tired, she didn't even want to play on the playground!!!
Cooper looked so cute! He wore his little lion outfit, with plaid shorts and his baseball cap! He is such a handsome little guy!
The following morning, Melvin and Barbara left for Louisiana. Cadence told many people her Grandpa was on an airplane. Even though they've been home over a week and a half, she still is talking about them and includes them in her prayers sometimes.

He is such a handsome little guy!When we got home from Salt Lake, the first thing Cadence wanted to do was to watch Madagascar. She talked about the giraffe, elephant and rhino. That night, she got her animal books out of her bookcase and told me which ones were at the zoo.
Since that day, she keeps asking to go to the zoo. Maybe in a couple of months!!!

I asked Melvin and Barbara many questions about the symbolism and what different things represent. I really enjoy learning about religion and how people view God from their own view - not third parties. I disliked on my mission when people told me what Mormons believed from what a Baptist or a Pentacostal had told them. It was skewed greatly. Cadence really enjoyed the Cathedral. She sat down on a pew and started to read one of their books they use at mass. She just kind of mumbles nonsense words when she reads.
Our next stop was to the 
When I was in elementary school, we went on a fieldtrip there. All I remember from it was the big trucks and a big pit. Some things just get better when you are older. This was one of them. The open pit mine was amazing, as was all the information I learned. 
Unfortunately, we didn't plan enough time for this activity. All of us could have stayed another hour or two before it closed. 
For example, this is one of the tires on the trucks that hauls the rocks to get processed. There are six of these tires on each truck. They cost $25,000 each and get replaced every year! Holy cow! I'm grateful that we only replace tires once every few years and it costs a couple hundred dollars. When I asked Melvin what he thought of the mine, his reply was, "

Notice Cadence is much wiser these days and won't even sit down. She wants a fast get away and to be able to hide behind Dad when the geese come.
There were A LOT of fish at Second Dam as we walked along the boardwalk. (Can you call it that?) Because the water is lower, the fish are easier to see. Cadence liked to talk to the people fishing and was excited to see all the fish. Next year, we will have to get fishing licenses and take her and Cooper fishing!!!
I thought getting a family picture would be a good idea! Hey, we had other people to take the photos besides me:) We stood in the 
Cadence fell asleep coming down the canyon. She missed out big time!!!
The paint was so dark, two coats of primer was necessary. We painted the ceiling "mayonnaise." The office was painted first with the color we thought we wanted in both rooms, but when we put it on the wall, it looked too yellow. So Chris and I ran to the store and got what we thought was a light brown for the front room. When put on the wall, it is really light and almost looks like an off-white. Oh well! It looks better than the dark green. The colors aren't exactly what I was going for, but I think it looks so much better. I think I will survive the winter now!!!
I left one wall green for an accent and to go with the fireplace. Someday I will paint it lighter!
Chris and I had thought about doing something fun like going to Yellowstone or down south to some national parks, but we just ended up staying around here. We got A LOT done and had some fun too. The next couple of entries will be about their visit!
We definitely had to walk to Cadence's favorite park and swing "high in the sky." Grandma pushed Cadence.

Chris also learned more about his family history and downloaded some genealogy program onto our computer. Barbara is really into family history and is very knowledgable about it. Chris learned things about his relatives on both his dad and mom's side of the family (like his Grandma's real first name!).
